A little known fact about us is that we have snack boxes all around the Mansfield and Columbus area. These snack boxes have a variety of snacks to choose, and in exchange for a snack, we ask for a $1 donation. We use these donations to not only support the vets, but also give back to our local food pantry. We heavily support the Catholic Charities Food Bank on Park Ave East in Mansfield. Don't believe us? Simply go in and ask them! They'll tell you. On any given week, there may be snacks, chocolates, or even produce that's been donated. These are all items that you don't typically get at a food bank.
Why do we do this? Because we can. Who's going to say no to free candy and snack foods that the stores want a fortune for? When you support us, you support the community. If you see our boxes, be sure to donate, even if you don't take a snack! As with any areas, there are dishonest people out there that steal from these boxes. On average, people steal $5-10 worth of snacks every week! With over 50 boxes, that amounts to almost $500/week in stolen product! This prevents us from helping to our full potential.
We also help low income families in the area. This program is kept very quiet, and the only way to receive any help through this program is by a direct referral. We don't tell anyone how to get referred, we only want to help those truely in need. There's so many out there that look for help that don't actually need it. We don't want to help those that take advantage. Our community is our eyes and ears, and helps us locate those truely in need. From pool parties for the kids, to groceries, we help where it's truely needed. Sometimes it even makes the newspaper, while we stay in the background, unmentioned. We like it that way.
